Many people get concerned about the topic of snoring when it affects them, and they think about how bothersome it is when they are trying to get some sleep. This article provides information to help you be less self-conscious about snoring as you learn ways to minimize or prevent it.

Blow your nose and follow up with nasal spray to help stop your snoring. Maintaining clear, moisturized airways allows you to breathe more easily during sleep. In addition, if your nose isn't stuffed, you won't have to breathe through your mouth while you're asleep and are therefore less likely to do so. Breathing through your mouth causes snoring.

You can reduce your snoring significantly by quitting smoking. If it is very difficult for you to quit, then do not smoke for several hours before you sleep. Smoking irritates the tissue in your throat, causing it to swell and restrict your airways. When narrowed passages exist, so does snoring. Consider quitting as an alternative to an inflamed throat at night.

It is imperative to reduce the severity of your snoring, as it will also impact others. If you're aiming to eliminate your snoring, then you may want to use nasal strips that are applied to your nose prior to going to bed. You may think they look silly, but they might reduce your snoring, which will lessen the annoyance of your snoring of those around you because, so these benefits far outweigh anything negative.

To reduce snoring, sleep on your side. Loud snoring can be a problem for your partner and cause conflict. Sleeping on the left side, however, is not medically proven to stop snoring. There is some evidence that shows that sleeping on your side keeps your airway open, though.

Stop snoring with the help of special exercises. There are special exercises that work certain muscles that become relaxed while sleeping. These relaxed muscles cause snoring. Consult your doctor to see if these exercises may be effective and if so, use them.

If you have a problem with snoring, think about what you consume regularly. Alcohol and sedatives increase snoring; therefore, you should limit these substances as much as possible. These substances depress your central nervous system, which relaxes all of your muscles, including those in your throat. Overly relaxed throat muscles can lead to snoring.

Don't drink alcohol if you snore. Alcohol is a relaxant that causes your muscles to release, even in your throat. The greater the degree to which your muscles are relaxed, the greater your risk of snoring. Refraining from drinking can limit your snoring. While having a few drinks is okay once in a while, regular consumption of alcohol is discouraged.

Smoking can increase snoring because it can increase inflammation of the throat and airways. When you smoke, the tissues in the back of your throat can become irritated and when this happens, your throat can swell up. If the tissues in your throat are swollen, you are more likely to snore.

You should now understand what it takes to get rid of some of that annoying snoring while you sleep. Keep working and applying everything you have learned so that you can stop snoring, and you will find you get results rather quickly.

Very helpful. I'll have to let my snore-er know some of these things. It's getting so bad, that I wake up--and we do not sleep in the same room haha

OMG!!! Seriously!!! I had the same problem, I wound up buying a small plastic fan at Walgreens that was so noisy, but the noise actually put me to sleep and kinda drowned out the snoring. I am no longer in that relationship though!

I was told this weekend after spending the weekend in a shared hotel room with my son and his girlfriend that my husband and I snore in sync.
